BCCI rejigs schedule of India vs West Indies ODIs and T20Is to avoid clash with IPL auction

The BCCI has affirmed that the scenes for the restricted overs series at home against West Indies will be Ahmedabad and Kolkata, and has likewise progressed the third ODI from February 12 to 11, to keep away from a conflict with the IPL sell off scheduled for February 12-13. As detailed by cricket analysis on January 20, the board had intended to hold the scenes to two rather than the first six, to restrict any shot at the Covid-19 pandemic influencing the series.

The BCCI said the move was "to alleviate biosecurity hazards by eliminating travel and development of the groups, match authorities, telecasters, and different partners."

The visit will start with three ODIs, which will all happen in Ahmedabad, and the groups will then, at that point, move to Kolkata for three T20Is. The ODIs are planned on February 6, 9 and 11. The opening T20I will currently happen on February 16 rather than 15, and the leftover two T20Is will go on February 18 and 20, as initially arranged.

As detailed by cricket analysis before, the BCCI had mooted the difference in dates, and was holding back to settle on an authority choice after conversations with Cricket West Indies.

Last September, while revealing India's home schedule for 2021-22, the BCCI had named Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Kolkata as the settings for the ODIs, with the first dates being February 6, 9 and 12. The T20Is were to be played in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram, on February 15, 18 and 20.

Aside from staying away from a conflict with the IPL barters, the adjustment of timetable is a preparatory advance by the BCCI, taken in light of the developing number of positive cases in India, which is presently encountering a third influx of the pandemic, with the Omicron variation prevailing the nation over. However the effect of this wave has been less extreme than the previous Delta wave, the serious level of transmissiblity of Omicron has prompted tough checks on development and public exercises, especially in enormous urban areas.
