Heather Knight - 'We haven't had that killer instinct to get over the line'

Two times in five days at Manuka Oval, England have included it inside their grip to keep the Ashes alive, yet rather Heather Knight was left to ponder the prize remaining with Australia until no less than 2023.

In the wake of being not able to pursue 45 off the last 10 overs of the Test match, it never truly felt they were in the chase after an objective of 206 on a precarious surface, despite the fact that the edge was thin enough eventually to add to the aggravation.

Nonetheless, Knight kept on accepting that her side are near turning over Australia. They can in any case square the multi-design series 8-8, as they did in 2017-18, and the two groups will meet again in their initial World Cup match one month from now.

"Think we truly aren't unreasonably far away," she said. "We've gone head to head with them. Our mindset this series has been great. We haven't had the option to very move past the line which is a disgrace, however we accept we are adequate to beat them.

"We simply haven't had that indomitable attitude to move past the line and when you let a few things slip, they are the kind of group who will make you pay and not allow you a subsequent opportunity."

Having batted well in the primary T20I just to see Australia jog past the objective with three overs in excess, they have now bowled very well just to observe that Australia can go that above and beyond.

With the bat the home side figured out how to pass 200 with an eighth-wicket stand of 52 then two bowlers - Darcie Brown and Tahlia McGrath - who started the season a long way from sure of having a customary spot in the group, consolidated to take 6 for 68 of every 20 overs.

"Thought we bowled remarkably and were truly unfortunate," Knight said. "We took the game to them, bowled impeccably to the arrangement, adjusted to the pitch. Then, at that point, recently continued to lose wickets in that pursuit. You'd back yourself to pursue that… however we were unable to string that organization together.

"In the three games we've played we haven't had the option to string batting and bowling together in a total exhibition. In any case, pleased with the manner in which the young ladies battled, the lower request kept the expectation alive yet tragically the Ashes are no more."
